The S family is so fabulous! I LOVE taking their pictures, and it was fun to go to this fabulous location! Their oldest son was about to go on his mission, so it was great to be able to get some fun shots with him and the rest of the kids before he left.

Sometimes I think I'm losing it! This fabulous family has been so patient in waiting to see their pictures! I could have sworn that I had them all posted, but reality slapped me in the face tonight when it hit me that they've just been silently waiting!!!! Anyway, here's a few from our session at Snowbasin. We had made plans to hit the gorgeous mountain and get green grass and enormous mountains in the pictures, but everything was still covered with snow!!!!! This whole "winter never ends in Utah" thing and the whole "water table rising/water loves to flood everyone's basements" thing has really got me crabby these days!!!!! Luckily there was a nice spot perfect for pictures that we found - whew! I don't think anyone was in the mood to look at anymore snow in their "spring" pictures!

I'm trying to catch up on my preview posts! My house flooded a couple of weeks ago, and it's put me in COMPLETE disarray! So, thanks to everyone for being so patient with me while my house is turned upside-down! Little "B" was only a tiny baby when I saw her last, but now she's all over the place and so so so busy! She was 4 days old, still no name, and her parents were so in love with her! It was so much fun to take pictures of her. I've been just dying to take a few pictures again after 4 months of taking it off with my babies - and she was a PERFECT model!

So, I know there's still a lot of people who are wanting to get on the books for 2011 sessions, but here's the reason why I am taking a little time off. Meet Lucy and Sophie. They are a month old now and take up all of my time. They are such tiny angels, and I want to enjoy every moment with them, so I won't be taking any bookings until June, and even after I start up again, I'll only be taking 1 session a week. So, if any of you have a session in mind and want to get on the books - just email me in advance because the openings will be gone quick!

This family is wonderful! Just home from their mission, the first thing the Grandma requested was a family picture of everyone together! It's not very easy to pull everyone together sometimes, and we all know how much husbands love to pose for pictures, but it's so worth it, right?!?!

Look at how cute these grandkids are!!! They did such a great job!

Okay, the 'little smile' is an art form, and she has perfected it! Not everybody can pull it off so casually as this sweet girl. I was impressed!
Everyone was so great, and I thought it was so wonderful that the Grandma and Grandpa stayed till the very end to watch everyone get their separate family pictures done. It came in really handy at the very end to have such a fun Grandpa on hand!

These are my neighbors, and they are so much fun! We had a small window a week ago where the rain stopped for about an hour, so the timing was perfect, but thank goodness we were wrapping things up after that hour because it started pouring on us! So, this family hasn't had family pictures taken for YEARS -- it was definitely time, and everyone did so well (even in the QUICKLY fading light!). I need to say something about these cute kids. They were so good! I have no idea how parents do that -- my kids are so all over the place, and I consider myself successful if I can make it home from an outing with all of them alive and still with me!

His grandpa restores old cars -- so we had our pick, and J really loved driving this one!

Okay, 10 years ago, I lived in the greatest little neighborhood in the middle of Salt Lake, and this awesome family lived just one street over. Their daughter was our first (and for a long time, our ONLY) babysitter! It was a much smaller family back then, but look at them now! It's crazy how much a family can grow in just a few years!!! Okay . . . . this might also be coming from the twins that are coming to our family VERY soon, and I might also be getting a little nervous for how big our family will instantly feel, but that's a therapy-post for another day.
This cabin was so fun to shoot in front of -- it was so perfect!

I can't even express how much I appreciate all of my beautiful clients that make the enormous drive up from Salt Lake to see me! This is one of those awesome families that I just love. I get to see them every year, and it makes it so fun to see how much the kids grow in just one year!!! Okay . . . one thing about this adorable little girl . . . . last year, she REALLY didn't want to do any pictures. The timing was just all wrong for her, but this year, she had the most fabulous poses lined up for me -- most of which I didn't even need to ask her to do! I just went with it, and we got some GREAT shots that make me laugh every time I see them!

I just love this family! I feel a little bad about making them all get up and ready pretty early in the morning, but the weather was just so great, and the oldest lives far, far away at college - so the timing was perfect!
Sometimes I do poses for my own amusement . . .

The funky guy in front is my little Sam's best bud -- they have very similar personalities! My husband once asked him why he was so cool, and his reply was that he, "stays up late and sometimes watches rated 'R' movies." Of, course! (By the way, he totally doesn't watch rated 'R' movies!)

I love the fall! It's crazy how the weather can change, though! At least this family got some great weather before the storms hit!

This family has been SO patient with me! I'm on bed rest for 6 hours a day, and I can't get any work done or anything for that whole time -- so I'm really behind!!!! I'm so sorry!!!!

Anyway, they were so fun and so cute, and the big brothers were SO great with their baby brother -- there's a special bond between brothers that makes me so happy! They took great care of him!

This stud had a little skateboarding accident the week before pictures - so I don't want to hear anymore complaining from moms whose babies get a little scratch on their cheek just before pictures because that's an easy fix in photoshop. I don't think there's a whole lot I can do with the cast, but at least it's a cute cast and just adds to the "tough-guy" look, right?!!

There is something just so great about doing pictures for a wedding at the Salt Lake Temple. I love it when it's nice and warm, but it tends to get a little busy and a little backed up on the stairs sometimes.
I had to post this picture because that little girl's look is just so priceless! It says everything we never say out loud when we're waiting for our turn!!

Okay . . . . . I should probably warn everyone that there are a LOT of pictures of food. I had WAY too much fun playing with the cute food at this wedding, but they were so fun to do that I wanted to post them. So, please forgive me for the amount of food pictures, and YES I was hungry that night -- so maybe that explains it!

Yummy! Look at how cute the little grilled cheese sandwiches and the tomato soup were!!

Megan's bouquet and all the other flowers were made of paper -- isn't that a fun idea? It was VERY colorful!

I just loved how Megan and Jason let me be crazy with finding some fun places to do their pictures at the Hilton!

I got to take this little darling's pictures on her 1st birthday! How lucky I am! She was AMAZING! I dragged her all over the valley, and I swear she never complained! I just love babies who are up for marathon sessions!!!! It's also pretty great to see her since her mom was my first babysitter for my oldest kids! I can't believe it's been that long -- she was in high school when she was babysitting for me, and now she has a gorgeous 1-year-old! Wow -- I'm feeling old now!

She was so funny - there were so many faces she was pulling!

Can I also take this moment to talk about how much I love photographs that kids aren't smiling in? Don't get me wrong -- there's almost nothing better than big smiles, but there's also something so natural about a calm look on a child's face. She was so much fun!
I found out that she likes to dance. Luckily, my kids are in love with crazy songs like "Poker Face" and "All the Single Ladies", so I just happened to have those songs in my car ready to crank up for her to boogie to. It was pretty darn cute! I really should probably apologize to the neighbors for playing it all so loud!
Did I mention her faces?

Thank goodness we noticed the black widow hanging out on the other side of these bricks! That would have been pretty scary for her! It was great seeing you, F, and thanks for having me take her pictures!!!!!

I will never put school pictures on my walls

I know I"m not alone with this opinion, and although I still get my kids ready for their pictures on "school picture day", I have a hard time wanting to buy any of them. They always come out with a weird fogginess and my kids usually have a pretty unnatural smile in them.

So, each year I've done a few "school pictures" for clients. I take some picturs - close-up, in front of a neutral (tans and creams) backdrop with better lighting. I'll upload them to my proofing site, and you can pick the picture you like the best for your package. I usually plan on about 5-10 minutes per child, and preschool or younger kids are invited.

This year, I'm only doing it for 4 days. I've already got people on a waiting list -- so if you are interested, please email me soon: mckenziehansenphotography@yahoo.com.

The package: $30 includes 3 sheets - any sizes you want

The "F" Family

I really do think there can be a curse on getting pictures done with small kids. It always seems like the kids won't be on their normal schedule - they wake up early or don't take naps, or they fall and get scraped up, or they won't eat anything but gummi bears - whatever. We've all been through it, and even though it makes the session harder, it can make for some funny pictures. 90% of the time, though, we walk away from the session with a lot of smiles - even though when you head home from the session you are scared to death that you didn't get any good ones at all!

This fabulous family had a little bit of that experience - the baby was suffering from molars coming though, and no amount of bribing could persuade his sister to stay in the kid-group photos, but we still got a TON of pictures that make it look like the session was pretty much a breeze! There are some pretty hefty bribes Mom has to live up to, though!

The older kids were so wonderful and such great helpers throughout the whole session! Thanks, you guys!

Yep -- I'm having twins!!! They're both girls, and we think they're identical! Now we'll have 3 boys and 3 girls - it just couldn't get any better. I'm expecting them in December, but since it can be so tricky with carrying them to full term, I'll be taking a little break from my business for a while. I'll only be taking 4 more sessions in September, and 2 more in October. I want to be all caught up and done with everyone's orders by the end of October just in case. Since I have to start "partial bed rest" (6 hours of lying flat everyday!) on September 10th, I'll only be taking sessions up here in Morgan after the beginning of October.

I hope that works for everyone, and I hope you check back later when I'm up and shooting again, but that probably won't be for a while since I have no idea how I'm going to successfully handle 6 kids ages 10 and under!!!

Such a darling family! I've been taking their pictures for a long time now, and it just gets better and better the more I get to know them! They came up to me this time, and I have to mention the little piece of old, dirty rope that was in the dirt. They girls were so grossed out and were like, "What is that?!?!?!" - probably expecting me to say, "a poisonous snake" or something, but when I told them it was just a rope, I think they were pretty disappointed. Coming up to the country should always guarantee a snake sighting or something, right? Well, I hope it was okay that I just took them to the dirtiest "country" sites around!
So cute! I can't wait until my little girl can do serious looks like this - she's so over-the-top with everything these days!
This tiny little sweetie, I am afraid I might have given her a phobia! She was just looking through the cracks of the floor, and I told her there were bugs down there (since that's kind of a cool thing . . . . for boys, right?!?), and then she wouldn't get down on the floor again. In fact, she wouldn't leave her little "doorway" for a while.
See? She got nervous about leaving the doorway!
At least I was able to get a bunch of pics of her without having to chase after her!!

Oh, yeah! The girls rocked the pictures!

So, this adorable family has been seen all over the city, driving around with the red couch in the back of their truck. Kids have reportedly been seen riding on the couch, in the truck, also. If you see them, please contact the authorities immediately!

Whew! This was a big family! They were so great! It can be hard when there's 5 families getting their pics taken and you're the 5th family, but everyone was so wonderful and positive!

I also need to mention the eyes of every single kid in this family. Their eyes are so amazing! These girls' eyes weren't touched up specially or anything -- just the normal stuff. Crazy gorgeous, right?

The funny thing about the guys in this family is that they all had the same smile in almost every single picture! This shot is my favorite, though, because I actually got to see something a little bigger, and even a few teeth!

Thanks you guys for being so patient and so great to work with! These days I get so tired I just pass out at the computer by 11! So, thanks again, and the rest should be up tonight!

This family was so great! I felt so bad that the traffic was everywhere up here. The Wasatch Back race was here at the same time as our session, and crazy cars and people were everywhere! They run right in front of my house with the spotlights blaring right into our windows, too! I tried hard not to go over by the race, but it was a little unavoidable.

I have to say, each one of these kids has the most amazing eyes!!!! I didn't add any color to them -- that's just how bright their eyes really are! I was so jealous!

"French Fry holes" are SO SO SO my favorite!!!!!!

Whew!!!! That took forever!!! My sweet son had "swiped" our credit cards into the disc drive and I guess it was getting stuck on them when it was trying to eject a disc! It took almost a whole week to get it back, but now I'm back in full-swing, finally!!!!

My little stinker can cause a few problems . . .

Well, my little guy, Jake, stuck a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or something in my beloved computer's disc drive. That has caused some big problems with burning everyone's files! So, I'm forced to surrender it to the MacDocs for a day or two. So, if you're looking for me, just give me a call at home - 801-829-4252. Hopefully things will be up and running again by the end of this week!!

I had a lot of fun on this shoot. There were these 2 sheep dogs that literally planted themselves right in front of this couple to be in their pictures. It was actually pretty hard to keep them out of the shots!! I had to laugh at how odd it all was, though, since they pretty came out of nowhere with no owners around or anything!

You guys were so great! Thanks for the laughs! The rest of the pics should be up tonight (I know we're under the gun, now!).

Okay, let me just start by saying that this little guy's eyes have sucked me in. They are so gorgeous, and I think he opened his eyes as big as he could for just about every picture I took of him. What a great and cooperative little stud!

Some pictures I have to post because I think they're kind of funny! There's nothing like a hug from a two-year-old sibling!

Little Miss Diva was absolutely divine for her pictures! We got so many, and like zero complaints!

Have I ever mentioned that I love the orchards? I would really love nothing more than to live in a tiny little house with an enormous, gorgeous orchard in the backyard! I swear I would have picnics in it for lunch every day.

Okay, back to reality, these little girls were so adorable!!! I think it's so funny trying to get toddler's to hold still for just a few minutes - because it's pretty close to impossible once they figure out how to walk/run!

Sweet little "B"

This little darling almost couldn't stop running! It was so funny trying to chase her down and to try to get her to look at me! She was really so happy and cute, and I was quite impressed with how fast she got around in all the tall grass ( well . . . . there were a few falls!).

I loved the toes in this picture!

She did so great! It was so fun to see her again, and thank you for being so patient with me in getting these posted, I'll get the rest up tomorrow!!

This family has been so patient!!! There's been a lot going on in my life lately and I've gotten a tiny bit behind, but at least we got some fabulous images for this family!

He was trying so hard in some of the pictures to be as tall as his big sister!

I really want someone to take a picture of me and Chloe like this. It's my favorite mom/daughter pose!

This session was so fun. The kids were so great and cooperative and even really liked each other! That would be something I need to get my oldest boys working on! The mini-session went perfect in every way.

The little girl gave her brother a lot of funny looks throughout the session!
Okay - I'm thinking I want to blow this picture up big for my own house? What do you think?
Seriously - those looks make me laugh! I think she thinks her brother is not the smartest boy , but he is pretty funny!

Holy cow! The weather held off for a few hours so I could get some great shots of this beautiful bride in the orchard! I'm not going to start complaining about the rain, but . . . . . . . . . . .

Every bride should be able to do this, right?

Have I mentioned that I really want an orchard as beautiful as this in my backyard? I'm going to go buy me some cherry trees first thing in the morning!!!
